Lands End

If you love cycling, then the Camel Trail is  great day out. It is 18 miles long and mostly traffic free along a disused railway line between Wenfordbridge, Bodmin, Wadebridge and Padstow.

Mermaid Pleasure Boat Trips can take you out fishing or looking for Whales and Dolphins. Truly a spectacular day out. Running from Penzance.

The more adventurous may want to give Swimming with Sharks a go! Running day trips from Penzance from June to October with this new, unique experience.

A new popular sport, especially in the safe water of Mount's Bay is Stand Up Paddle Boarding. This company runs tours, lessons and hire, with delivery to Katoomba possible.

Getting Around

Public transport is a great way to see Cornwall and avoids parking problems.  The bus has weekly offers, with the closest bus stop referred to as Hayle Towans. The train is fantastic, especially the route between St Erth (which has a large park and ride) and St Ives.

The open top bus is a great way to see West Cornwall.

Walks

South West Coast Path 630 mile coastal footpath with breathtaking views, can be joined within a 5 minute walk from Katoomba.

Hayle has numerous places to walk. Less than 10 minutes from the chalet is the most beautiful beach, on which you can walk for miles. Roaming the towans (Cornish for dunes) is fabulous for the whole family.

I walk Cornwall is a great site that lists many walks around Hayle and further afield.

Hayle Town Council has produced a guide with some Local Walks.

Dog friendly beaches

This map will show you the seasonal restrictions (July 1st- August 31st 10.00-18.00) that are in place on local beaches. Page 9 is specific to Hayle Beach, which shows that Mexico Towans (just after Cove Cafe at Black Cliffs) is dog-friendly all year round.  See this leaflet for more information covering the wider area.
