Your Stay at Katoomba

Thank you so much for booking Katoomba. We thought it would be nice for you to know a little about us!

I am Kerry and I have taken on the running of Katoomba. I am Cornish and I grew up in Penzance. All my family are still local, with my brother and sister in Hayle and my parents in Penzance. I now live in Devon with my husband and 3 teenage children, but my heart will always be with Cornwall!

With no move back to Cornwall ever on the horizon, we bought Katoomba in 2020 as a little piece of ‘home’.

We are always striving to maintain and improve Katoomba to the highest standard.

We hope that you will love it too.

Best holiday wishes,

Kerry & Andy

The information below should help you enjoy your stay in Katoomba. We have detailed user instructions for the appliances at the bottom of this page, and also in the yellow folder in the bottom drawer in the kitchen This page is a work in progress so if what you are looking for isn't on here, please contact us and we will endeavour to help you!

Wi-Fi

We have installed our own private superfast broadband. The network is EE-9WQK9S and the password is HKYKwQ79y3NFM3kA. The router is behind the TV and there is a black tab that can be removed from the box with the login details. There is also a QR code which you can scan with a camera and it will log you straight in.

We have also have a new Smart TV so remember to bring your Netflix/Prime log in details and you can sign yourself in. Don't forget to sign out on your way home.

Waste Collection

We have now subscribed to the site waste collection as we were having issues with ours being collected. The bins take all black waste and recycling and are only a minute walk from Katoomba. Turn left towards the rear exit and they can be found on the left-hand side.

Ventilation

One of the bedrooms has a newly installed ventilation system to prevent the buildup of condensation, which is common in beach chalets. This has been set to the quietest setting, so please do not alter this. It should not be noisy at bedtime. Please can the bedrooms doors be left open wherever possible, as this helps it to work much more effectively.

Our 4 Legged Guests

We welcome our doggie guests to Katoomba as we know what an amazing place it is, and everyone deserves to play on that incredible beach!

We do just have some small requests to preserve Katoomba’s charm for subsequent guests (as we know that the sand and fur gets everywhere....).

If you know that you like to jump up on the sofa, then please can your human put down a throw before you get too snuggly. We would prefer it if you didn’t try to get into our lovely white linen beds as your humans may end up having to pay if there is any excessive cleaning.

Please can any dog poo be picked up and double- bagged.

We are sorry, as we know that Katoomba is super cosy, but a site rule is that you are not allowed to be left on your own. We are sure you want to go out and have some fun anyway!

Talking of fun, please can you stay on your lead whilst on the site (yes- another site rule) and also whilst you are walking on the cliff path, but once you are down on the beach, you are free to stretch those legs!

The Walk to Dog-Friendly Beach can be found on this link. This shows the route to the unrestricted Mexico Towans Beach, whilst Riviere Towans in front of the site has some seasonal restrictions between 10.00-18.00 from July 1st to August 31st.

More information about dogs on beaches can be found on the 'Days out' link below.

We hope that you enjoy your holiday in Katoomba!

Departure

The departure time is 10.00. We appreciate this is early, but the time is required for a thorough cleanTraffic leaving Cornwall can be busy on a Saturday morning, so an early start is actually a good idea! Please could you leave Katoomba tidy for our housekeeping team. We would really appreciate it if all bed linen, towels, and tea towels were placed in the shower cubicle.

Please can you ensure all waste bins have been emptied and placed in the onsite wheelie bins.

Please can the key be returned to the keylock.

If you leave before your planned departure day, please can you message my fabulous housekeepers on 07905163387, as they love to make an early start whenever possible.

In an Emergency

Call 999 in the event of any emergency quoting the address, which is stated within the chalet, behind the door to the entrance. The chalet is equipped with a fire blanket, but your safety is our priority, so please evacuate rather than attempting to fight a fire. Both doors are equipped with a thumb turn lock (for a quick exit), so please be aware of this if travelling with children. Please contact me once everyone has evacuated and is safe.

We have left a night light/torch in each bedroom should you evacuate in an emergency.

Things to do

Getting Around

Public transport is a great way to see Cornwall and avoid parking problems.  The bus has weekly offers, with the closest bus stop referred to as Hayle Towans. The bus provider is in the process of changing so I will update this page when I know more. The train is fantastic, especially the route between St Erth (which has a large park and ride) and St Ives.

The open top bus is a great way to see West Cornwall.

Days Out

I have a Local Area page on the website that will give you lots of ideas! Sorry, there are almost too many!

Food

The Food page will give you some eating in, and out inspiration.

Interactive Map

This Google Map will show the locations of places to go and see and also restaurants and takeaways.

User Instructions

Heating

We have installed underfloor heating throughout the tiled areas. During the chillier winter and spring periods we have set it at differing temperatures throughout the day to account for times when guests are out. This is easily adjusted by pressing the arrow buttons up or down (on the far wall to the right of the window, tucked in the corner), but we would ask you to be mindful of both the environmental impacts and the hugely increasing electricity costs. We would love Katoomba to remain an affordable holiday for all. It will default back to the original settings at the next scheduled change. We can alter this remotely (so that it's warm for guests' arrival), so if you need any assistance please let us know.

We also have oil filled radiators in each bedroom (these can get hot so take care of children), and a wall mounted fan heater in the bathroom.

Drinking

There is an electric kettle for your convenience, and we also have a Tassimo machine that uses pods.

Here are the user instructions, which aren't as complicated as the image implies. Fill with water, put your Tassimo pod in the section at the top, push down firmly, press the button until you have the desired size of drink.

Cooking

We have a well equipped kitchen with a double oven and grill, and a microwave. The instructions are in the bottom drawer (yellow folder) in the kitchen.

Laundry

We have a newly installed washing machine. As with all the new machines there are lots of programmes. The images here will give you an idea of the programme duration. The quick wash is suitable for a full load and finishes in 28 minutes.
